Parent Teacher Organization

What impact does the PTO create?

Sheridan School PTO is a non-profit organization of parents and teachers working together for the betterment of Sheridan Arts Spanish Dual Immersion Elementary School.

The purpose of the PTO is to enhance and support the educational experience at Sheridan School, to develop a closer connection between school and home by encouraging parent involvement, and to improve the environment at Sheridan School through volunteer and financial support.

Can I be a member?

Any parent, guardian, or other adult standing in as a parent for a student at the school may be a member and have voting rights. The principal, as well as any teacher or employee at the school, may be a member and have voting rights.

I'm excited to join! When and where does the PTO meet?

The PTO meets the second Monday of each month September through June from 5:00-6:00PM in the Media Center.

What do current PTO members and volunteers love about the organization?

  1. Volunteering allows you to be “hands on” with your child’s education.
    • Research indicates that when families are involved, a child is more apt to get higher grades, be more likely to graduate, and go on to higher education.
  2. Our children love to see us in this environment, where they spend seven hours a day.
  3. You get to know your children’s teachers and your children’s friends.
  4. Attendance at PTO meetings gives you a voice.
    • You help decide what we do as a group.
    • You help decide where the money should go.
  5. Membership can help ease the transition to Sheridan for new families through networking with long-time Sheridan families.
  6. An added bonus is that you have the opportunity to meet wonderful people who can become great friends.

How much time do members or volunteers usually devote?

Every little bit of help counts!  Help out once, help out every time, or anything in between; we have jobs to fit everyone's schedule and interests. Only YOU can decide how much time you can give.
