Celebrate Días de los Muertos with Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, Cuernavaca City Mayor Antonio Villalobos, and Council Member Alondra Cano with a free MSP Film Society's Cine Latino movie screening and a community reception featuring Mexican filmmaker Francesco Taboada, Emiliano Zapata’s grandson Mr. Manuel Manrique Zapata, and local folk artist Monica Vega.

This event is free and open to the public—bring your family, friends, and neighbors!

We’ll kick-off the event with an artist talk by Monica Vega who will lead a guided tour of the ofrendas she created to honor the life of Mexican revolutionary hero Emiliano Zapata. Join us to learn about the tradition of Días de los Muertos, hear how ofrendas are made, enjoy some pan de muertos con chocolate, and make your own take-home art to remember Zapata’s story of resistance.

Stay to watch the free documentary film “Los Últimos Zapatistas, Héroes Olvidados (The Last Zapatistas, Forgotten Heroes)” followed by a community conversation and reception with Mexico-based filmmaker Francesco Taboada Tabone, Emiliano Zapata’s grandson Don Manuel Manrique Zapata, and ofrenda-maker Monica Vega.

There is no cost to view the film, but we ask that you please register in advance on the MSP Film Society's Cine Latino website at bit.ly/ZapatistasMpls. The ofrendas will be available for viewing starting Friday, November 1st to Sunday, November 3rd during the Weisman Art Museum’s regular hours listed at z.umn.edu/VisitWAM.
