Hello!  I’m Julia Braaten (BRAH-ten).  I have been working at Sheridan as an Associate Educator since May of 2017.  At Sheridan, I love teaching reading groups, helping with science experiments, and teaching core standards through the arts. Grades three through five are where I shine brightest.

I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Intercultural Studies.  Before working at Sheridan, I was a Child Care Assistant with the Minneapolis Kids after-school program, where I planned many creative projects for second through fifth graders.  In the summer we took a ton of field trips.  Prior to that, I was a nanny full-time for the parents of seven kids.  When we weren’t doing homeschool, we did art projects, studied instruments, took the dogs for walks, went to the park, and played on the beach.

In my spare time, I sing with the VocalEssence volunteer chorus, play with my dog, or go for long runs with my husband (but he goes alone in when it’s below freezing).  We ran the Twin Cities Marathon three years in a row (2016, 2017, and 2018).  We also like biking on the Greenway and biking to Stillwater during the fall when the leaves are changing on the Gateway trail.

Thanks for reading,

“Miss Julia”
