Molly Zupon has been studying fine arts since 1988, when she first started playing violin. It was in high school when she auditioned for the speech team and starting working backstage at Anoka Senior High's acclaimed theater program in the late ninties when she fell in love with drama. Her senior year in high school was when she got into her first musical, and also joined choir. After graduation, she enrolled in college at Bemidji State University and graduated with both a vocal performance degree and a theater degree. She couldn't decide which she loved more! After graduation, Ms Z (as the students know her) went on to perform at various venues around the Twin Cities. Noteworthy places include The Jungle Theater, where she sang and played her violin in a musical rednition of 'The Rivals', in the pit orchestra of the Bloomington Civic Theater for three musicals, in many Fringe Festival shows, all of which she had a hand in writing, in an acapella ensemble named DeCantus, the Minnesota Opera Chorus, and most recently, the comedy improvisation band The Dregs. Ms Z has performed at the Reniassance Festival since 2004, and was nominated by her peers for the prestegious 'Unicorn Award' for her excellence in entertainment. Ms Z brings a love of humor, music, and silliness, and weaves this into each lesson.
Ms Z has also been working with youth since 1999, when she was the music and drama specialist for the Elks Youth Camp up in Nisswa, MN. She worked there for two summers, and the following summer worked as a camp counselor at the Bemidji State University funded program 'Applause! Hands On Theater Camp'. After graduating from Bemidji State, Ms Z worked as a stage manager at the Paul Bunyan Playhouse where she worked with talented youth performers and in the fall continued as an Assistant Stage Manager for Stages Theater Company in Hopkins. It was in 2005 when Ms Z started teaching private music lessons at Schmitt Music, and had students who stayed with her from the begining of their music careers when they were nine, until they graduated high school. Ms Z has a small group of violin and viola students she still teaches out of her home in Bloomington. Ms Z was also the music director for the Sabes JCC in the summer of 2015, and was asked back to join them for the summer of 2016.
Ms Z went back to school in the spring of 2014 when she enrolled in Hamline's MAT program and decided to get a K-12 theater teaching license. She is very excited to bring the magic of theater to the students at Sheridan and hopes to start up an after school auditioned theater program soon. Ms Z has high standards for her students, but doesn't mind rolling around on the floor with them if they need the encouragement to use their imagination.
